Emily McIntosh, LAMFT-T

Scottsdale and Virtual Openings

For as long as I can remember, I've been deeply interested in humans and the immense variation of our experiences. In 2011 I began facilitating grief groups and sharing transformative practices with individuals. For several years I served parents experiencing infant loss and discovered my dedication to holding space for couples and families in complex transitions. I returned to school, and completed a Master's degree in Marriage & Family therapy with an emphasis in Trauma (prior B.S. in Marriage & Family Science). I have advanced training in trauma therapy (Brainspotting and NARM), and advanced training in couple’s therapy Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

My approach is both practical and co-creative, as I support clients in discovering more about themselves, and providing a safe space for exploration around their needs.  I value curiosity, agency and heartfulness in the work we do together.  While I appreciate the formal education I've received, many of my most important lessons have come through navigating my own personal work, witnessing clients in processing theirs, and learning from so many unique journeys. These experiences continue to teach me the importance of being present for clients as a human, not just a clinician.

I honor the innate wisdom of my clients and keenly feel the privilege that it is to hold such space.   In my free time, I enjoy road trips, renovating historic homes, and thrift store shopping. I recently took up painting and (while quite awkward and unskilled), I love it. When not doing these things, you'll find me podcasting for the NARM Training Institute on "Transforming Trauma", interviewing and learning from experts in the field of mental health. I currently live in Mesa, AZ with my husband Nick, and our three living sons.  I currently have openings for couples therapy, individual therapy and family therapy in Scottsdale, Arizona or virtually.
